This 12th century relief carving is on the left exterior wall of the Chiesa di Santa Maria (also known as the Chiesa di San Rocco) in Pitigliano, a small town in the Grosseto region of Tuscany, Italy.
It depicts a man with both arms outstretched, with each hand in a dragon's mouth. It is said to symbolise the superiority of spiritual strength over brute force.
