Chastleton House
Chastleton House, near Moreton-in-Marsh in Oxfordshire, was built between 1607 and 1612 for the wealthy wool merchant Walter Jones. It remains largely unaltered and so represents a good example of a Jacobean country house.
The rules of the game of croquet were drawn up here in 1865 and so Chastleton is the birthplace of croquet as a competitive sport.
It is now owned by the National Trust.
