17th century Indian inlaid wood cabinet and chairs
This cabinet and chairs are part of a set in the library at Charlecote Park, a National Trust house in Warwickshire. They are decorated with inlaid patterns, including ivory. They were made in India although when acquired by the Lucy family they were wrongly thought to be Elizabethan English. The cabinet has sixteen drawers which were used for storing catalogue cards for the library collection.
Charlecote Park is a stately home which has been the residence of the Lucy family since the 13th century. The current house was completed in 1558 and was visited by Queen Elizabeth I in 1572.
