dedication to Lanfranco on Modena Cathedral

Modena Cathedral is in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.

Begun in 1099, the cathedral was consecrated in 1184 and was built in the Romanesque style under the direction of master builder Lanfranco.

This stone inscription is on the exterior of the apse and dates the cathedral to 23rd May 1099, and goes on to praise Lanfranco as "famous for his wit; a wise and expert director and maestro of this building".
