half-timbered buildings on Rue du Père Adam, Rouen

The old centre of Rouen - albeit much reconstructed after the destruction of the 1944 battle of Normandy - contains numerous half-timbered buildings, evoking a feeling of its mediaeval past.

 

The Brittany flag flying on the left of this picture signals the Breton cuisine of the restaurant 'La Phare' (The Lighthouse) whose sign hangs alongside.
