Church of St Catherine, Honfleur
The Church of St Catherine in Honfleur, Normandy, France is actually two buildings: the church proper (seen on the right) and a freestanding bell tower (seen left). The tower was built separately in order to reduce the risk of fire in case of a lightning strike.
The church was built in the second half of the 15th century immediately after the Hundred Years' War, and was constructed by shipbuilders (without using saws!)
It was originally built with a single nave; a second was added in the 16th century.
