fish-shaped windows in Church of St Joan of Arc, Rouen
The Church of St Joan of Arc was designed by architect Louis Arretche and was built in 1979. It stands in the Place du Vieux-Marché in Rouen, Normandy, France. Its location is very close to the spot where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in 1431.
It incorporates stained glass saved from the former church of St Vincent which stood nearby and was destroyed by bombing during the battle for Normandy in 1944.
It is said to resemble both a Viking boat (notably the wooden ceiling) and also a fish (perhaps more so from the outside).
