Porte des Champs gate, Caen castle
This gateway through the outer defensive wall of Caen castle was built in the early 13th century on the orders of Philip Augustus, King of France. It underwent many alterations after the start of the Hundred Years' War in 1346.
Unlike the castle itself, which was completely destroyed, this gateway survived the WW2 allied bombing of Caen in 1944.
