German WW2 gun observation bunker in Normandy

At Longues-sur-Mer, a few kilometres east of Arromanches on the Normandy coast in northern France, and therefore between the Omaha and Gold landing beaches.

There were four gun emplacements higher up the cliff, set further back from the edge - which meant a separate observation bunker was needed to target the guns' aim.

These guns were fired in anger on D Day but were quickly put out of action by allied warships and the German crew subsequently captured by the British.

The opening scene of the film 'The Longest Day' was filmed within this bunker.
