German WW2 gun emplacement in Normandy
Part of a four-gun artillery battery at Longues-sur-Mer, a few kilometres east of Arromanches on the Normandy coast in northern France, and therefore between the Omaha and Gold landing beaches. Each 152mm gun is protected by the substantial concrete casement that surrounds it.
These guns were fired in anger on D Day but were quickly put out of action by allied warships and the German crew was subsequently captured by the British.
