unfinished business

The ancient Doric temple at Segesta, Sicily, remains unfinished after more than 2,500 years. Its columns are missing the carved fluting that is standard for its Doric style, and the stone blocks around its base still have their protruding bosses which would have been used to manoeuvre them into position before being removed after completion. Two of these protruding bosses can be seen at the bottom of this shot, one on each side.
