Unto This Last
One of a number of relief carved decorative panels on the People's Palace, a theatre and event venue within Queen Mary College, University of London, Mile End. The building is designed in an Art Deco style and was opened in 1937.
This panel includes an image of a pamphlet bearing the words 'Unto This Last': the title of an essay by John Ruskin published in 1860 which was a critique of industrial capitalism. The phrase itself originates in the Bible (Matthew 20: the parable of the workers in the vineyard).
