concrete mushroom columns

On the terrace outside Queen Elizabeth Hall in the Southbank Centre, London. The columns together with the octagonal capitals were cast in one piece using wooden shuttering, from which the wood grain can still be seen in the surface texture.

The building was opened in 1967 and designed in a brutalist style by architects Hubert Bennett, Jack Whittle, F.G. West and Geoffrey Horsefall (source: Wikipedia).
