main hall of National Museum of Roman Art, Merida

The National Museum of Roman Art is in Merida, Extremadura, Spain.

It houses the extensive collection of artefacts and statuary from the former Roman city of Emerita Augusta. It opened in 1986 and was designed by architect Rafael Moneo.

The ground floor of the museum, seen here, features an airy central hall at the end of which is a display of sculpture which would have adorned the portico of the municipal forum in Emerita Augusta.
