Dvigrad - ruined town in Istria, Croatia
Its name means 'Twin Town': originally there were two settlements, Moncastello and Castel Parentino, but the latter was abandoned in the 10th century. The remaining ruins seen here are those of Moncastello which remained occupied until the early 18th century by which time it was completely depopulated as a result of war, malaria and plague.
