The 14th century Fontanella tower is part of Sveti Lovreč's fortifications. It was built at a time when Istria was under Venetian control and its military command for the region was based in Sveti Lovreč. However like much of the town's fortifications, the tower is now ruined - hence the staircase that stops mid-air.
