coats of arms on Pazin castle

A castle has stood in Pazin, Istria (Croatia) since at least AD 983 (when it first appears in written records). Over the centuries control of the castle passed repeatedly between different owners, such as local lords, the Habsburg dynasty, the Venetians, Napoleonic France, and Italy.

Above the main castle gateway are coats of arms which belong to some of these former owners.
