fan vault in Tewkesbury Abbey porch
The porch on the south side of Tewkesbury Abbey has a beautiful 14th century fan vault. The four ribs of the vault converge in a delicate pattern of scrolls and circles.
The porch is in fact the only remaining part of what was originally the abbey cloister. It shows strong similarities with the fan vaulted cloister of nearby Gloucester Cathedral.
