Railton Mobil Special - 1938 land speed record car
The Railton Mobil Special, designed by Reid Railton, was driven by John Cobb in his successful attempt to gain the land speed record in 1938 (attaining a speed of 353mph). The car was further developed after the war and in 1947 it achieved a speed of 394mph.
On display in Birmingham's Thinktank science museum. The car's aerodynamic body has been raised up to show the wheels, chassis and engine below.
