statue of Mercury on Alphabeta Building, Finsbury Square
Standing on the central tower of the Alphabeta Building (formerly Triton Court) in Finsbury Square, London is this bronze statue of Mercury - the messenger of the gods. This Art Deco part of the building dates back to 1929-30 when it was added to the pre-existing neo-baroque building (built 1904-5) which already stood at the junction of Finsbury Square and City Road. The statue of Mercury was designed by sculptor James Alexander Stevenson.
