Macro Mondays - National - Liberty Bell
Group: Macro Mondays
Theme: National
In the spirit of this week's theme, I photographed a pewter Liberty Bell (USA). The area photographed is about two inches across.
The liberty bell has an inscription that reads: "Proclaim LIBERTY Throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants Thereof Lev. XXV. v X.
By Order of the ASSEMBLY of the Province of PENSYLVANIA for the State House in PhiladA
Pass and Stow
Philana MDCCLIII"
Pass and Stow owned the foundry where it was cast. The first attempt for a bell came from a foundry in London, but it cracked on its first test on arrival. It was broken into pieces and recast by Pass and Stow. "Lev. XXV. v X" stands for Leviticus 25:10. MDCCLIII is the year the bell was recast (1753).
I set the bell in place to photograph after church but with the early morning light coming in at such a nice low angle, I just couldn't resist taking a few minutes to get some shots of it in the hope one or more would work out. This is one of those images.
Happy Macro Monday to all!
