2017 - Badlands Vacation - Watching Lunch

This is a shot taken in Badlands National Park of a Starling (?) eyeing a tasty morsel still "on the wing" that is about to be a snack.

In early June 2017 I traveled to Badlands National Park, Spearfish Canyon, Devil\'s Tower and Wind Cave National Park with Charlie Chapman 75

.

We stayed in the Badlands NP and Wind Cave Campgrounds while in South Dakota.

I found the Badlands to be very imposing and memorable. Badlands and good hiking trails, highlighted by the Notch Trail.

Spearfish Canyon was lush and beautiful. We toured the waterfalls and hiked a small portion of the Iron Creek trail but it was late so we just took some pictures of the creek and left.

Devil\'s Tower was an amazing sight but all there is little to do there except to view the tower and then hike whatever trails one wants to hike. We hiked the trail around the base of the tower which provided a super view of the valley surrounding the tower.

Wind Cave NP was a little disappointing. We went on two tours which were over crowded and the cave is a "dry cave", which means many of the colorful features of wet caves were missing.
