Lady with a Broom - Real Photo Postcard with Mask
Life has been interesting but busy for the last couple of weeks. I still have several postcards from the last show to post.
This real photo postcard was mailed in 1909 from Mrs. W. F. Souers to Mr. Will Crider in Bridgeport, Illinois. I am not sure if the young woman with a broom, handkerchief style apron and tall cap is just someone who loved house work or if it is a costume. It seems a ate for a woman's precision broom brigade but maybe it made a comeback in the teens. The mask is a border of strawberries.
This is a style of card that we have not seen before. They were everywhere at the last show. Of the large offering we picked eight. I could have easily found dozens more that I would have liked to buy. The cards were printed with graphic masks. I have many cabinet cards printed with masks but these postcards from the early 20th century were new to me. I will post the other six soon.
