A Collector's Story - M.J. Steffens Portraits, Clayton Mark's Mother and Baby Sib?
The plan is to unpack all the book boxes (100+) before we unpack any photographs. It does make sense because we can't put down rugs or add furniture to the room we are calling the library till the book boxes are removed. (see my post of the unpacking in progress)
When I could not stand to look at another book I did sneak and open one box of the print collection where I thought the Steffens photographs would be. Success! I am going to post the rest of the group one at a time over the next few days.
I find this mother and child photograph very appealing and the round mask adds to the appeal. I assume from the mount and the "Mark eyes" that is woman and baby are members of the same family as Clayton and his sister. Does the woman look old enough to be their mother? Might she be an older sister with her baby? When I have time to finish my research I might be able to establish the names and sexes of the eight Mark children and make a better guess.
