Inspiration for Lord of the Rings

North door,St James church, Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire.

Inspiration for J.R.R. Tolkien's "Doors of Durin" in The Lord of the Rings. The door, flanked by ancient yew trees, is said to have caught Tolkien's eye during his visits to the area, where he studied and taught at Oxford.
