Cascade Calicoflower (Downingia yina)

It would be very easy to miss these very tiny plants. Each flower is less than a half-inch wide. This Pacific North West species is usually found in the northernmost part of California to British Columbia. However, several species of Downingia seeds are available commercially, and therefore it should be no surprise to find them elsewhere. Downingia yina prefers damp conditions, and are usually found near lakes or ponds, and boggy places. (The anther column is almost hidden in D. yina).
