Moeraki Boulders

The real reason we stopped -- the Moeraki Boulders (on Koekohe Beach, an hour or so north of Dunedin), a weird and rare collection of geologic oddities. They are frankly really freaky things. They're all fairly regularly spherical, so much so that they don't look natural, scattered across the beach.

(This beach was also great for shell-collecting. But it was really COLD out there -- the wind was coming straight off Antarctica.)
