Opossum World! Napier, NZ

I had been told that if we went to Napier, I should on no account miss a visit to Possum World! Here it is, on the esplanade running around the waterfront.

Possums are an import to NZ from Australia, brought over in the 19th century in hopes of establishing a fur trade. Giant mistake, since NZ lacked mammalian predators prior to human arrival. Possums have been a scourge of the native bird population, and they're now considered vermin, and it's your civic duty to kill them when you find them. But their fur is very soft, and there is in fact a fur trade going on, too.
