Te Puia Marae

Te Puia, on the outskirts of Rotorua, is a Maori arts and cultural center (and location of the Pohutu Geyser). We went there for a hangi, which is sort of the Maori equivalent of a luau -- a feast preceded by a greeting ceremony and involving performances like singing and dancing. I had just taken this pic to test my camera's settings, before the greeting ceremony was to start -- and the battery died. D'oh! This is the marae, the traditional Maori meeting-house. The whole thing was really wonderful and memorable, but you'll have to take my word for that.
