Wai-o-Tapu, mini-terraces, close-up

There's a place in Turkey called Pamukkale that has much bigger calcium terraces just like these (see link below for comparison) -- big enough to walk on, and to bathe in the pools like they were jacuzzis (they are obviously not filled with caustic water). New Zealand too used to have terraces like those, the famous Pink and White Terraces, which were tourist attractions in this region in the 19th century. But then there was another volcanic eruption, and it wiped them out. Here at Wai-o-Tapu, new ones are forming. Unfortunately, this is a close-up of them, and while they're very cute, it's going to be tens of thousands of years before they're big enough to soak in; and it's pretty likely another eruption will wipe them out before that.
