Day 71/365 - Love, Ain't it a Beautiful Thing.
Today started like any other early day, dragging myself out of bed earlier than my body prefers. 7am and I’m up and getting ready for my engagement session with Brandy and her husband to be Victor. I’ve known Brandy for the past 10 years. She used to date my brother Cory and she was one of the first people I took pictures of way back when I had no idea what strobe lights were.
They wanted a classic, clean and beautiful look to their pictures. They knew they wanted them on the beach and I knew just the beach. House of Refuge and the un-florida like rocks. Now, this is a very overused area and I know all too well the 1001 ways this location has been used and the 1000 ways its been photographed poorly! I’m not going to say I’ve figured out the best way to capture it but at least I’ve acknowledged that it does take a bit of finesse to work. The Sun is best from sunrise to about 10am and from 2pm to about 4pm. After that the sun fades to far down the western horizon and the beach falls into shadow. We opted for a 9am call time to take advantage of the warm bright sunshine and the deep aqua blues and greens that the suns brings out in the water. This would give a very bright and light color palate for the session. The white and blues Brandy and Victor were wearing could be a challenge to photograph. However, I believe strongly in artificial lighting and wouldn’t think about choosing this location without it. Well, I would at the very least have a large reflector.
