If needed, when eh? and uh . . . don't work, AH inevitably follows. It's possibly the most important one of the lot, being as ambiguous as it is.
AH as in 'I don't have a chuffing scooby what you're talking about' or AH as in 'Of course! I understand completely and will deal accordingly'. It's all in the inflection.
Used correctly this little word will ensure that people leave feeling both happy that their problem is being dealt with, yet slightly bemused and with a nagging feeling that they'll be back in a week asking the same question. To which you respond: Eh?
So spins the infinite circle of the constantly bewildered.

Strobist info: SB600 to camera left (I think - I flipped the shot in Photoshop) at 1/4 power bounced off the ceiling. Camera angled slightly downwards, me looking slightly upwards to catch some extra light in my eye. A little extra dodging done on the eyes in Lightroom. Forgive me Strobist . . .
