234/365 # Balancing nature and the machine

Sorry, this might be a bit boring to look at but I really like it. It's more practise using the flash than anything fun. I really like the balance of natural light to the light from the flash, and the focus is nailed on. Get in. *does a little dance*.

I tried for ages to find something interesting to do to this shot but I couldn't bring myself to do more than a few little tweaks in Lightroom. If I'd done anything more to the shot I'd've felt like I was taking something away from what I got straight out of camera, so I settled for (hopefully) enhancing what I got rather than drastically altering it.

I wish I'd used a smaller aperture, I was at f3.5 for this shot, which is great and all, but I wish the whole of my head was more clearly defined and the DoF was deeper. I don't wish it enough to go back and reshoot though, oh no. I'm happy enough with the shot as it is.

The faraway look on my face is because I've been listening to Loveless by My Bloody Valentine all day and it has that effect on me.

Strobist info: SB600 to camera right at 1/64 power, at head height and positioned slightly behind my head but facing slightly towards me. I used one of my Lee Filters sample swatches to take some of the sting out of the flash. Lighting to the left is natural light coming in through the window.
