214/365 # My happy face is in the wash . . .

I think I'm going to have to read up a bit about lighting - this is about shot eighty of nearly one hundred shots. I know that there's cool things you can do with just one flash, but I must be missing something cos there wasn't much good about the other 99 or so shots I took today.

I did make myself a homemade diffuser today, after a quick scan through Amazon told me that I'd have to spend £15 plus postage to get a proper one . . . maybe I should try eBay but to me it's just a bit of opaque plastic that goes over your flash right? £15? Make a wish. A bit of cardboard and some cut up milk cartons surely do the same job, and I don't feel like I've been mugged.

Having said all that, the finished article is the Frankenstien's monster of diffusers. It's bulky, ugly and has gaps where I couldn't tape the milk carton bits together . . . but I think it works. Enough for what I'm using it for anyway.

I got lucky and stumbled on this setup which I liked the look of, but I was pretty threadbare by the time I got this shot - I got no patience. One Lightroom preset and some retouching in Photoshop later and here it is. It's not exciting, but it is another lighting lesson learned.

Strobist info: SB600 at 1/32 power to camera right, just behind the camera and bounced off the ceiling.

The slight glow around my shoulders is either the Lightroom preset I used doing something weird or some residual light from where the flash fired off the ceiling, I'm not sure.

The shadow cast by my nose is starting to bother me . . .
