The weather was so gorgeous today that me and Lydia took the kids out for a walk - one of the many great things about being a photo junkie is that it gets you out of the house.
At the start of this year I'd've wasted a day like this sitting on the sofa watching old episodes of Star Trek, or just channel surfing. Now whenever I get the chance I want to get outside and do something - not just to take photos but to have some time with Lydia and the boys.
So OK, I may occasionally get lost in taking photos, but at least we're out there, together, enjoying the simple things in life. There's not many things better than being outside on a cold, sunny day, staring out to sea with the sound of your children running happily around you. It's when they start chucking stones near your camera you start getting nervous . . .
We had a pub lunch after walking along the beach and I just had a really awesome time - I felt really content for a change. I'm such a miserable bastard sometimes, never happy with what I've got - days like today remind me that what I have got is a lot, I should be the happiest f**ker about and I should stop being so damn selfish.
The photo itself I'm not so happy with - it's too dark in places and it's not that sharp. I used my kit lens for this shot, and an aperture of f22 so I could shoot at the sun and not blow out the sky.
I love the way the sun's come out though, very pleased with that. And as much as the technical shortcomings of this shot bother me, I like it because looking at it reminds me that actually I'm very lucky to live where I do, and some days it does look pretty.
It's going to be an exciting night tonight, it's the band's last gig of the year so we're hoping to go out with a bang. Not a literal bang cos we can't afford to replace a blown speaker or suffer an horrific electric shock incident, but you know what I mean.
We hope to rock like a motherf**king behemoth tonight . . . turn it all up to ten, point it at the audience and make their earwax melt.
