181/365 # Watching the world go by
Definitely better viewed large.
This was the idea I mentioned yesterday. I'm so fed up shooting an SP in the kitchen every night, so I've been trying to come up with ways that I can get some variety into my 365 while it's still dark early in the evening. I had this idea a while back, I go over this roundabout everyday on the bus, and as I was staring out the window on my way home one night I thought it might be a cool place to shoot.
This is also, believe it or not, an interesting spot geographically. Reason being, this is where the new road will rejoin the existing infrastructure when it's built. And the new road is being built because the 2012 Olympics sailing events are being held here. So in four years time, where I'm standing in this shot will be a road.
I took around fourty shots here, I was hoping there'd be a bit more traffic but the flow of traffic was pretty slow. I was also waiting for a bus to go past because I figured I'd get more light trails from a bus - didn't happen. Not until I was packing up did a bus go past.
Luckily I caught a truck going by in this shot, so in addition to the light trails from the cars I've got that . . . err . . . wooshy bit in the shot where the truck drove past.
This was a five second exposure at f11 - I was surprised how light it was and I needed to go to f11 to get the shutter speed I wanted.
It's not quite how I imagined it would turn out, but it's close enough. It's also cool to post a shot that hasn't been processed to death, I just used a Lightroom preset on this and cropped it to balance the shot a bit better. It's good to post an actual photograph.
It's a shame about the lamp post in the foreground, but it's kind of balanced by where I'm stood.
I'm really pleased how this turned out so expect more shots like this as time and weather permits - I didn't think I'd be able to get good enough shots in the dark but this has changed my mind and opened up a whole new avenue for some different 365 shots.
