157/365 # I see Starz
I have had fun today. Loadsa fun. I have made things, and used them and they have worked quite nicely. Let me elaborate.
As you probably know, I'm a big fan of Stephen Poff. A while back he posted this shot using his lensbaby and a star aperture he made himself out of a fridge magnet.
And I was reading an old photography book yesterday and it was going on about how you could create different shapes by making your own aperture shapes, punching a load of holes in fabric and shining a light from behind the fabric to create points of light. Then with the aperture shape of your choice placed over the lens you take a shot and get cool shapes where the points of light are shaped by the aperture shape! I don't fully understand it but it's cool.
Anyway, I made a star shaped aperture today, and punched a load of holes in a piece of cardboard. Then I shone a light behind the cardboard and took some shots. That's where the stars come from.
And then there's Disco~Stu and his Banksy inspired shot. This is the inspiration behind the 'stencilled' treatment I've used for my face.
Both shots are very cool and I highly recommend following the links provided!
To be honest I have no idea how I ended up with this shot. Half of me likes it, the other half thinks it's a waste of a 50mm lens.
The plan was to exploit the incredible sharpness you get with the 50mm, which I did, I got a couple of nailed on perfect shots. Problem is they were more boring than a Sunday in church. I played around with a couple of ideas and this came out.
I guess the thing I like best about this shot is the way it just kind of evolved from something that was its polar opposite. Sometimes you just gotta roll with it.
Finally, an appreciative nod in the direction of the person that can name the song that I nicked the lyrics from for my title today . . .
