79/365 # Gig night #1
Lack of time (and possibly) effort has led me to post this lame-ass 'shot' today. Got a gig tonight and have been running through the set feverishly to make sure I'm prepped. Such a pro ;-).
If you look closely at the bottom left hand corner of the shot you can see my thumb there just about fulfiling the criteria for a self-portrait. I really couldn't think of anything else and needed to practise so today my 365 was low priority, I want this gig to be good, it should be good and I'm really looking forward to it.
Plus it's bank holiday weekend so the pub should be rammed.
So you've probably realised that this shot has the setlist for tonight's gig in it - specifically the second set.
There was kind of a purpose to shooting this in that Live Forever by Oasis is the last song we'll be playing tonight and if we get it right we should raise the roof - and I'm playing the solos! Usually I play rhythm guitar so this is a step out of the comfort zone, but I learnt this song note for note years ago so it should bring the house down.
The set in full (cos I'm sad and this is a journal as much as a 365 project so it's for my own posterity):
Set One:
Bartender and the Thief - Stereophonics
Shoot the Runner - Kasabian
You're All I Have - Snow Patrol
Ruby - Kaiser Chiefs
When You Were Young - The Killers
Learn to Fly - Foo Fighters
Love Will Tear Us Apart - Joy Division
Modern Way - Kaiser Chiefs
The Middle - Jimmy Eat World
Vertigo - U2
Break for tea and scrumpets, then:
Set Two:
Dakota - Stereophonics
Umbrella - Manic Street Preachers cover of a Rihanna tune
Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead
Teenage Kicks - The Undertones
Pretty Vacant - The Sex Pistols
Ever Fallen In Love - The Buzzcocks
Blitzkreig Bop - Ramones
Commando - Ramones
Read My Mind - The Killers
Chasing Cars - Snow Patrol
Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple
Live Forever - Oasis
I feel like I should apologise for having Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol in the set . . . honestly I wouldn't choose to listen to 90% of the songs we play, but they're all good songs and punters love hearing stuff like Chasing Cars, it's 100% a crowd-pleasing song and if you look a little further up the list we will have been pummelling them for about ten minutes with our punk medley. Ten minutes? Sorry, it's a punk medley . . . three and a half minutes.
I'll try and be a bit more creative tomorrow but time's ticking on and I must meditate . . . and take loads of drugs!
Uh, I was only kidding about the drugs of course, responsible adult and parent etc etc, I was just trying to make myself sound more ROCK.
Last thing before I go, I found this dude on Flickr yesterday who does the most awesome shots ever. And I wanted to share this with you because . . . well, I'd feel bad if I didn't. So go check out LShadrack post haste.
I must go now to pray to the gods of rock - full post-mortem of the gig to follow tomorrow. Hey, don't all run away like that!
