65/365 # The boney king of nowhere
Rain - it's popular round these parts, and we're experiencing an abundance of it today. What I'm trying to say is . . . it's pissing it down. Again.
Weird sort of day today. Me and my brother were meant to be going to Newquay to see Red Light Company play at the Boardmasters Festival, but he's got some kind of nasty glandular virus and is not very well at all, so we've had to give it a miss. Probably a good thing if the weather in Newquay is as crap as it is here.
I wanted to go looking at DSLRs again (just looking, not buying) around some shops, maybe price up some lights and halogen bulbs for future ghetto lighting action but the rain has us trapped inside annoying each other.
It's not all bad though, I pre-ordered the latest Red Light Company single Meccano and it arrived today two days ahead of schedule - CD, coloured 7", limited numbered 7" plus a signed sleeve limited to 200 copies, all for £5 - cool!
Today's 365 started off with an idea that mutated into something totally detached from its origin.
For some time I've wanted to do an homage to a set of photos I saw in a music magazine a few years ago. It was when Radiohead released their album Kid A, and the photos were these weird shots where the eyes had been manipulated to look like they were glowing and the band's faces were mirrored so that they were symmetrical. They looked like aliens, it was weird.
I tried it out but it made me look stoopid so I ditched that idea. And then got really frustrated because I didn't know what to do.
In the end I decided to play around a bit with textures and layer blending and this shot just sort of happened.
Because I couldn't quite shake off the Radiohead concept I added a line from their song Paranoid Android from the album OK Computer - one of my favourite lyrics ever, which may give you an insight into the other side of Daz, the Daz I'd love to let off the leash once in a while. I wanted to use the lyrics to 'Fitter Happier' from the same album but these lyrics kinda sum up my mood today.
Soooooo . . . not the idea I had in mind considering I wanted to do something cool for day 65 (only 300 left, plain sailing!) and I wish I'd had yesterday's idea today because it's my favourite of my own 365s yet. Can't win 'em all I suppose.
Looking back through my 365s there's quite a few Radiohead references actually, especially round the time I went to see them at Victoria Park - awesome . . .
PS: Actually, now I've uploaded it I'm quite happy with it . . . fickle is my middle name!
