35/365 # Frack to bunt
Wow - another busy day at the office. Got in at 7:45 this morning and didn't stop - not even for lunch.
One of the backup tapes didn't run yesterday night so I went off to investigate and it turned out the drive had chewed the tape up and it took an engineer three hours to get the damn thing out. While I stood there like a chump watching him struggle. He had to phone the office a couple of times just to get the thing open.
It's a weird job I have really, I work in Exchequer Services in a small team that test developments to the Payroll and Payments systems, write user guides and provide general technical support to payroll, pensions and payments teams. . . and anything else people happen to chuck at us. So we need to know about things like payroll, pensions, payments but we also need to be fairly technically minded because we liaise with IT a lot over problems with the system and have to understand how it works from the inside, if you know what I mean.
It's a really fun job and I love it, but I think people sometimes misunderstand what we do (and know) and expect us to know stuff. So when persons are asking me teccy things about drives, servers etc I'm like - what the hell are you talking about? I dunno!
But I do know that this particular drive was not meant to eat the tape that was in it. We're getting a new drive tomorrow so hopefully this won't happen again for . . . oooooh, at least a month.
Had just enough time to shortlist candidates for the vacant post in our office - one of the candidates was a good mate of mine (actually the drummer in the band I'm in), luckily he got himself an interview, thus avoiding awkward moments the next time I see him.
So, a busy but kinda fun day.
The idea for tonight's shot arrived in my brain while I was on the bus home. It seems that buses are an untapped source of inspiration, so a little tip from me when you're low on creativity is to hop on one and wait for the great ideas to hit you like bugs on a windscreen.
I was originally going to get into my work clothes back to front (which seemed hilarious to my very sad sense of humour) and take the shot, but by the time I got home I couldn't be arsed if I'm being honest, so I took two shots, one facing the camera and one facing the wall and spliced them together. Which was a bit of a pain in the ass, and I had to take a couple of goes at it to get it right, but I think it came out OK in the end and I'm quite happy with it.
I had a little helper tonight - my youngest boy Ben. I even got a couple of shots of him pulling faces at me while I took a couple of test shots, and they're so cute I might just upload one or two to share the cuteness around! While I was taking my 365 shots, everytime the shutter went he said "It's done dad!" . . . bless him!
I've only got a vague idea what the shot is actually about . . . something to do with not knowing if I'm coming or going, something like that. Mostly to do with the manic nature of work, hence the work garments. And I thought you'd all be getting bored of the four t-shirts I own.
Today I was listening to See You On The Other Side by Korn. It took me all day to listen to a fourty minute album! What's the world coming to?
