16/365 # Ol' blue eye

Time to cliché it up – the ol’ eye close-up featuring colour-popped iris. I’ve seen several peeps try this out, all of them good of course, so I thought I’d give it a go.

It was kind of a panic shot at first, I had an idea, set up the Fuji, started gurning away but the batteries died before I got one shot off! So I had to use the camera on my phone for today’s snap which seriously limited my options.

After several goes I managed to get a shot I could work on and ended up with what you see above. I’ve hit on a winning formula now – I only use Photoshop if I need to work with layers, otherwise it’s Lightroom all the way. It seems to retain the detail of the original shot better to me, Photoshop seems to degrade the quality slightly. That might just be me?

It took me ages to get the colour pop right but it was worth the effort. I’ve been playing around with the shot on and off all day and I had to just stop and leave it otherwise I’d still be tweaking it at midnight.

Getting this done early tonight so I can (a) do some ironing :-( and (b) watch the Holland vs Russia match and give the missus a hug :-) - should be good!

Additional: OK, so the football's not living up to its billing and I've spent most of my time browsing Flickr. I did do the ironing though. And how cool is this - I created my first Lightroom preset! I named it O'Donnelled after the dude that inspired it. I'll try and use it sometime soon . . .

Stare into my eye . . .
