Progressive Rail - Elk Grove Village, Illinois
Progressive Rail 1500, an EMD GP15-1 built in 1977 for the St. Louis–San Francisco Railway, represents one of the last generations of classic four-axle EMD road switchers. Often referred to as a “baby tunnel motor” for its low-mounted radiator intakes, the GP15-1 was designed specifically for heavy switching and industrial service. Having survived multiple owners and railroad mergers, PGR 1500 now works for the Chicago Junction Railway, carrying the name City of Elk Grove Village. Nearly five decades after it first entered service, the locomotive now switches customers in a large industrial park in Elk Grove Village, on the west side of the Chicago area.
