Les aiguilles de Port-Coton sont quelques stacks (rochers marins) formant un des sites les plus remarquables de Belle-Île-en-Mer (Morbihan, France) se situant dans la commune de Bangor.
Situées sur la côte sauvage (côte ouest) de Belle-Île, au sud de Port-Coton, non loin du grand phare et de Port-Goulphar, les aiguilles de Port-Coton font partie de la commune de Bangor.
Port-Coton est une ria encaissée, terminée par une minuscule plage de sable grossier, inaccessible depuis la terre. Les aiguilles prolongent l'arête sud de cette anse.
Les rochers qui forment les aiguilles de Port-Coton entretiennent l'imagination des spectateurs qui croient y reconnaître un petit mont Saint-Michel, un chien ou un loup hurlant, une poule en couvaison, un sphinx ou encore un buste de Louis XIV.
Leur nom vient de l'écume projetée par les vagues au pied des rochers par forte houle, cette écume ressemblant à un voile de coton.
The Aiguilles de Port-Coton are some of the most remarkable sites of Belle-Île-en-Mer (Morbihan, France) located in the commune of Bangor.
Located on the wild coast (west coast) of Belle-Île, south of Port-Coton, not far from the large lighthouse and Port-Goulphar, the Aiguilles de Port-Coton are part of the commune of Bangor. They are easily observable from the RD 190 which ends in a car park on a hill just opposite this group of blocks.
Port-Coton is a steep-sided estuary, ending in a tiny beach of coarse sand, inaccessible from the land. The needles extend the south ridge of this cove.
The rocks that form the needles of Port-Coton keep the imagination of the spectators alive, who think they recognize a small Mont Saint-Michel, a dog or a howling wolf, a brooding hen, a sphinx or a bust of Louis XIV.
Their name comes from the foam thrown by the waves at the foot of the rocks in strong swells, this foam resembling a cotton veil.
