Essence of Roppongi
In most people's discussions they usually put Roppongi 3rd to Shibuya and Shinjuku, a well known town in the Tokyo cluster (it's similar to how you can't call NYC NYC because it's 5-6 towns, not just one large city). But I'd argue it's the other way around and it's the best of Tokyo's neighborhoods. This place is particularly known for it's nightlife, interpret that however you want, but in this instance I mean the lights. I've always preferred night photography over day in most locations cause I can get compositions not many other people get, so this place was practically tailor-made for photographers like me.
As you can probably tell, the centerpiece of Roppongi is the Tokyo Tower, and I have LOTS of different angles (which you will already know if you are a returning viewer). But this is a special one. I didn't see any photos at this particular spot beforehand and was here under recommendation from my mentor. The front courtyard of the Yakiniku Champion hotel (took a while to find a name as precise as that for geotagging). Took a side entrance to get here, and the staff were already bringing out the roll-down gate. Fortunately the staffer didn't seem too bothered that I was standing out here so I was able to turn my attention to the desired photo.
You see, in spring, when the sakuras are in bloom (or in this case, starting to), they put colored lights on it, enhancing the effect. I aligned my frame vertically to get the Tokyo Tower poking out of the back, a good assortment of violet and pink branches, and even Roppongi Hills emerging on the right even if it doesn't stand out as well. Hardly did much in editing cause the photo was nearly perfect as is with the options the bracket presented.
This is one of my better shots in Tokyo, and is a strong example of why I prefer shooting at night above all else.
