Purification

I never actually got the name down for this place, Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Shrine, very extensive. I thought it had like a one word name at first. On a relatively free day, I drove south through Fujiyoshida to start my day here.

The rain was going off and on in the first half of the day, making it a little challenging to get the first batch of compositions here. Further into the grounds I found this. I've often seen fountains of similar spiritual significance at other shrines prior, but the ones prior all used bamboo chutes. This one was decidedly more elegant, opting to instead use a dragon, which had long lost the color it might've had and turned green from the water.

I couldn't get too ambitious with the motion blur because once again I was battling a white sky that would've gotten more overexposed the longer I had the shutter open. So I had to settle for a middle result. I of course attempted to get rid of that brightness in editing. I had more color then I originally thought I'd be working with too. I didn't notice how much yellow was peeking out of the dominant green on the dragon at first, and the red of the building and torii in the back. Not a super powerful contrast but enough to justify saving this angle. Because no tripods were allowed on the grounds, I think I actually laid my Canon on the side of the fountain, which was overflowing, which was dangerous because everyone knows most cameras are not waterproof. But anything for a different perspective.
