Herberts Travel, P424 KSX

Alexander Royale Volvo Olympian, 1996

Here is the upper deck of 424. For coming up to its 30th birthday next year, the interior is still looking really good, and the bus still runs stong.

This bus was originally part of a batch of 67 acquired by Lothian Transport between 1996 and 1997, with fleet numbers corresponding to their registrations (N*** GSX, P*** KSX & P*** PSX), although one number (280) wasn’t issued. Of these, 64 were dual-door buses, while three were single-door models with coach seating, meant for the coach division featuring a white livery that was eventually integrated into the main fleet. Buses numbered 401 to 430 (401 - 407 were N*** GSX & 408 - 430 were P*** KSX)were delivered from July to November 1996, followed by the three coach seaters (431-433, also under the P*** KSX reg). Subsequently, the numbering was reset, and buses 251 to 279 and 281 to 285 arrived between May and July 1997, registered P*** PSX. It seems that a number of these buses were sold to West Bus from 2005 to 2009, during which time they were likely converted to single-door format and retrimmed. Herbert's has acquired a few of these models, particularly P213 KSX and P422 KSX, all of which have since left the fleet. This bus was supposedly a replacement for P413 KSX, which was scrapped late last year due to a lack of major engine components.
