The Strada Coperta (Covered Road) of Vigevano was built in 1347 by Luchino Visconti as a fortified bridge to connect the castle to the Rocca Vecchia (Old Fortress), allowing the lords to move around safely. Its purpose was defensive: to allow nobles to enter and exit the castle unseen, and to escape in times of danger. The structure, approximately 167 meters long, consists of an upper and a lower passageway, and today hosts exhibitions, events, and event sales.
