Red Soldier Beetle on Daisy © Cormac Mac Mahon

Red soldier beetles, also known as hogweed bonking beetles, are notable for their vibrant red and black coloring, which resembles a soldier's uniform. They are often found on flowers, particularly hogweed, and are active even in winter. Adults primarily feed on nectar and pollen, while their larvae are carnivorous, feeding on snails and other invertebrates.
