The Blackrock Diving Tower in Salthill, Galway, has a history dating back to 1885 when a springboard was first erected by locals. While initially met with resistance from the property owner, the local council secured the right to the area and provided public access for bathing. The original structure was primitive, but after a near-fatal accident in 1942, the current diving tower was built in 1950.
