Inferno - Franz von Stuck, 1908
Not actually one of my favourites, but as I stood wondering how it managed to score a spot opposite Oedipus and the Sphinx, a young woman walked by and commented that it "looks like it was painted by an old master then someone came along with some acrylics from Michaels and added the flames" thereby enshrining it forever in my heart.
Seriously though. It looks even more ridiculous in person because the flames and snake just freaking glow but in the worst supernatural romance book cover kind of way.
Also, just try not singing "Inferno"to the tune of Informer by Snow. A licky boom-boom down.
